/ˌkwɛstʃən ˈmɑrk/
/ˈkwɛstʃən mɑk/
IPA guide

Other forms: question marks

A question mark (?) is a punctuation mark that indicates an inquiry. Did you know that a question mark belongs at the end of a sentence intended to get information?

If you text your friend and want to make it clear that you're asking a question, be sure to add a question mark at the end. The term question mark first appeared in English usage in the mid-19th century — earlier it was called an "interrogation point." Many other languages also use the question mark. How would you ask questions, and get the answers you need, without it?
